This recipe (originally from Mercola) reminds me of Golden Milk (Turmeric Tea), but I’m posting it separately, as the Golden Milk post is getting a bit long with so many versions.
This is warming beverage rich in anti-inflammatory nutrients. It is perfect for a fall or winter day. Or chilled with ice, like an iced latte.

I recently added Golden Milk to my daily regimen, just before bed for a better sleep and to help me heal from inflammation issues. It is delicious! I’ve been wondering if it would also be good as a coffee-free latte, and today I saw a recipe for just that on Mercola’s website (4), which I’ve adapted here. This version adds coconut sugar and coconut oil, and uses almond milk. I would prefer to use fresh raw dairy milk or coconut milk, and would sprinkle a bit of ground cinnamon on top when serving.
You may wonder about the added fat and black pepper; they are essential to help with absorption (they allow formation of liposomal turmeric and ginger); use full-fat dairy milk (cream-at-the-top) or coconut oil.
Ingredients & Equipment
- 1 tsp fresh, grated turmeric or dried turmeric spice
- 1 tsp grated ginger or dried ginger spice
- 1 Tbsp coconut sugar or Rapadura (dehydrated sugar cane juice) or white cane sugar (alternately, use a few drops of liquid stevia extract, to taste)
- 2 tsp coconut oil or ghee
- Pinch of unrefined sea salt
- Tiny pinch black pepper (optional but recommended)
- 1 cup almond milk, coconut milk, or whole dairy milk (raw or simply-pasteurized, NOT ultra-pasteurized)
- Garnish
- cinnamon powder
- Equipment
- grater
- blender
- saucepan or latte steamer
- serving cup
Original Method
Note that your blender and saucepan will get stained yellow from the spices.
- Peel ginger and turmeric root, then grate each. Combine with coconut sugar, coconut oil and sea salt in a blender.
- In a small saucepan, heat the almond milk over medium heat until it’s just simmering.
- Pour the hot almond milk into the blender (with the root mixture) and whirl until smooth and frothy.
- Pour into a serving cup and sprinkle latte with cinnamon powder (optional).
Alternate methods
I’ve not tested these methods because I don’t have a latte steamer. Note that your blender or steamer-cup will get stained yellow from the spices.
- Using fresh ginger & turmeric: Combine the grated fresh turmeric and ginger, coconut sugar, coconut oil and sea salt in a blender. Add to almond or dairy milk and steam with a latte steamer.
- Using dried ginger & turmeric: Combine all ingredients and steam with a latte steamer.
