Humans have made and used their own personal care products and healing remedies from natural ingredients like vinegar, soap, alcohol, baking soda, olive oil, honey, herbs/spices and essential oils for eons, dating back to ancient Chinese, East-Indian, African, Egyptian, Greek, Celtic, European, and Native American cultures. They would not have survived to produce the peoples who live around our globe today, had it not been for their ability to study, document and make natural remedies to heal from disease, or from snake or insect bites.
Modern pharmaceuticals are a type of sorcery; indeed, the root of the word pharmaceutical (pharmakia) means sorcery! They are concocted not to treat the root cause of diseases but rather to suppress their symptoms. However, the symptoms are signs our immune system is working; suppressing the symptoms with pharmaceuticals suppresses our natural immune system, driving the disease deeper where it causes even more harm and more dangerous symptoms.
Using proper herbal remedies helps and strengthens the immune system, and thus are a far-better treatment than pharmaceuticals!
Homemade Personal Care Products
Most commercial personal care products such as shampoos, skin-care, toothpaste and cosmetics include toxic or questionable ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulfate, parabens, heavy metals, and GMOs. However, it is very easy to make many personal care products devoid of toxic ingredients from natural ingredients you already have in your kitchen, or can purchase at your local herb store.

Natural Healing Remedies, etc.
Many people mock herbal medicine because it’s not ‘scientific’ and not invented by man (as in copyrighted). But modern man would not even be on this planet if the eons of men before us had not relied on herbal and spiritual medicine for healing. They used simple herbs, berries, barks, roots, leaves of plants, and products of other animals such as the honey from bees. Some experiments didn’t do the job and were lost to history. Others worked so well, they were passed on from generation to generation, down through the ages, and are still used today.
I include herbs and mixtures that have medicinal/healing properties, but are not necessarily used in cooking, including herbs that are toxic if ingested but have important topical healing abilities (such as arnica). I also include Essential (Fragrance) Oils.
I am not a doctor nor other health care practitioner, but I am a scientist (I have BAs in Biology and Chemistry, 4 years post graduate work in Molecular Biology and Quantum Chemistry, and 2 years as a research assistant at the OHSU School of Medicine) before I became a telephone engineer. I try to keep up with published research articles and advances in natural medicine.

Recommendations and Formulas from Swan Valley Herbs, Bigfork MT
- Soaks
- Detox Baths (Therapeutic Soaks): < See link for more detail; the following is just a summary. These are added to a full tub of water; soak 30 min.
- Sea Salt and Baking Soda mix for radiation exposure: 1 lb or 1½ cups each salt and soda in full tub of water, as hot as you can stand. Soak typically once a month. It is recommended to drink 2 cups of yarrow or ginger tea before each soak to promote sweating. I use Swan Valley Herbs’ Yarrow tincture (2 squirts of dropper – about 40 drops – per cup of simmering filtered water).
- Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) to detox pesticides and other chemical compounds: one 16-oz bottle (2 cups) of 3% H2O2 in full tub of water.
- Clorox: CAUTION: I no longer recommend this soak because in 2018, Clorox changed their formula, which changed the vibrational frequency of the liquid. It will likely not work and may cause harm.
- The original (old) formula (6% hypochlorite) was used to detox pesticides and other chemical compounds if the peroxide soak (above) is not effective. However, if you can still find the Clorox 6% hypochlorite bleach formula, you can use that.
- Instructions for original (old) formula: Use ½ cup regular brand CLOROX bleach (6% hypochlorite bleach), unscented only. DO NOT use any other brand.
- Epsom Salt Soak Recipe used for many needs; see article for more.
- Herbal & Magnesium Foot Soak (see Wellness Mama recipe below)

- Stress-Relieving Magnesium Foot Soak (Wellness Mama)
- Detox Baths (Therapeutic Soaks): < See link for more detail; the following is just a summary. These are added to a full tub of water; soak 30 min.
- Steams (to breathe remedies)
- Wormwood steam (for ascaris roundworm larvae in lungs); see catsfork.com/CatsKitchen/herbs-spices-individual-g-z/; scroll down to “Wormwood” near bottom of page
- Tincture formulas that I take (from Swan Valley Herbs, Bigfork MT). Dosage: For most of these formulas: 2-squirts of the eye dropper, 3-times daily (before breakfast, mid-afternoon, and before bedtime). Any recommended dosage for a particular formula different from that, is listed with the formula.
- Artery/Vein, for poor circulation and neuropathy, especially in legs and feet:
- ART/VN 2018 (1 squirt, 1-2x daily): Butchers Broom (40%), Hawthorne Berry (40%), and Yellowdock (20%) with Capsicum.
- ART/VN-II 2020 Updated formula after new radionics test: Hawthorne Berry, Yellow Clover, Broomtops, Horse Chestnut, Pricklyash, and Ginger Root (2 squirts, 3x; but can start w 1 squirt, 2x and work upward as needed). Cat’s note: This version has really helped with the tingling in my toes/feet when I go to bed.
- [Side note: these ART/VN formulas have ingredients in common with an OTC formulation called Neuroflo™: Hawthorne, Ginger, Butcher’s Broom, Cayenne (Capsicum), Ginger Root, and Horse Chestnut. However, I trust our local herb store more than an OTC drug]
- Infection:
- INF: Oregon Grape Root, Barberry Root
- INF-II possible formula: Oregon Grape root (40%), Red clover (20%), Sarsaparilla (smilax ornata) (20%); possibly add Yellow Dock root
- [Side note: Berberine is the active ingredient in Oregon Grape Root and Barberry Root.]
- Kidney/Bladder; [note: These formulas make you pee a lot, so I take it only 2-4 days at a time, when I feel heat in my kidney area.]:
- KB: Marshmallow, Skullcap, Plantain, Gravel Root, Hydrangea, Juniper Berries, Uva Ursi, Ginger Root. For “gravel” (stones), or infection,
- Dec 2018, 2 squirts, 3x for infection
- I take this for gravel, off/on as needed (when back near kidneys is hot), 1-2 squirts, 2x; usually 2-4 days
- KB2: Marshmallow, Uva Ursi, Horsetail, Wild Carrot, Juniper Berry, Ginger Root
- KB: Marshmallow, Skullcap, Plantain, Gravel Root, Hydrangea, Juniper Berries, Uva Ursi, Ginger Root. For “gravel” (stones), or infection,
- Liver, for liver detox and general liver health (3 squirts, 3x daily, unless noted otherwise)
- LIV formula: Dandelion Root and Milk Thistle Seed
- LIVII formula: Dandelion Root, Milk Thistle Seed, and Burdock Root
- See also Yellow Dock root tea in “Beverages and Teas” section, above
- Lung, for forest fire smoke issues Sept 2018:
- LG-I formula (3 squirts, 5x daily): Marshmallow, Comfrey root, Slippery Elm, Coltsfoot, Skunk Cabbage, Lobelia, Fenugreek, Capsicum;
- LG-II: Marshmallow, Mullien, Coltsfoot, lack cohosh, Fenugreek, Capsicum
- Lomatium Compound (see below)
- Homeopathic Smoke Remedy
- Lomatium Compound for respiratory viral issues such as colds and flu (1 squirt, 3x daily as immune-booster/preventative, or 2-3 squirts, 3x daily for healing): Lomatium Root, Osha Root, Cedar Leaf, Yarrow and Usnea.
- Immune-booster/preventative, 2018: Use when first experience sore throat or swollen glands under lower jaw; typically late fall – early spring, or as needed.
- During each winter I take a low dose (1 squirt 1-3x) along with Echinacea tincture to boost my immunity and to minimize my allergy to snow mold;
- During 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, I took 1-squirt, 3x, but if started to have symptoms (sinus, cough, fever) I increased to 2-squirts, 3x along with Sinus and/or Lung-II tinctures depending on symptoms, until symptoms stopped, then went back to 1-3x. If this didn’t resolve symptoms in 2-3 days, I would have increased to 3-squirts, 3x; fortunately, that need never happened
- Pain, especially nerve pain: Willow Bark, Skullcap, Lobelia. I take 1 squirt as needed for TMJ pain which happens only occasionally.
- I note that white willow bark is the original “aspirin;” the important ingredient in this herb is salicin.
- A pharmaceutical company wanted to make a patent-able pill that could relieve pain, based on salicin; the result was acetyl-salicylic acid. While it can help with pain, the addition of the acetyl group causes trouble for some people, including me, so I use the real deal (White Willow Bark).
- See a Dr. Axe article about this herb for lots more information: Dr. Axe: White Willow Bark: The Natural Pain Reliever that Works Like Aspirin:
- Parasite for most intestinal and liver parasites
- PAR (aka Clarkia) for most intestinal and liver parasites; off-and-on since 2000 (2 squirts, 3x daily): Black Walnut, Wormwood leaves & flowers as tincture, plus incapsulated ground Cloves. Caution: do not take wormwood for long periods. See Curezone for more about this remedy.
- PAR II: Black Walnut hull, Woodfern and Brackenfern; for ascaris (large roundworm)
- PAR III (7/2020): Black Walnut hull, Wormwood, Brackenfern, Tansy; for ascaris (in gut and lung)
- Sinus, for sinus infection/headache: Usnea, Nettle Root, Buterbur
- Artery/Vein, for poor circulation and neuropathy, especially in legs and feet:
- Vibrational remedies (from Swan Valley Herbs, Bigfork MT). Each time, before taking, succus bottom of bottle 7 or 14 times against palm of other hand. Then place drops directly under tongue (do not let dropper touch your body). No food or beverage 10-15 min before/after each dose. Take 7 – 14 drops, up to 4-times daily.
- These include:
- homeopathic remedies,
- flower-essence remedies, and
- gem elixirs.
- Examples:
- Homeopathic remedy for depression: 30C Natrum Muriaticum; this may not help with all types of depression, but it has really helped my depression that resulted from COVID, and it also helped a close friend with bipolar disorder.
- These include:
